About Encaustic Artist, Michael D. Carter

Artist Michael D. Carter
Michael has always been passionate about art.  As a young man his interest in creating things was fostered by his mother and extended from hand-crafting wood to drawing and painting.  His life changed dramatically when he moved to an artists' loft space in the Deep Ellum District of Dallas in 2000.  Becoming close friends with neighbors who were full-time artists offered Michael the opportunity to begin immersing himself in the art world during his free time.  It quickly became clear that his passion for painting and creating art was something more than a hobby.

Moving to New Mexico allowed Michael to pursue his artistic career full-time.  Beginning in a studio space in his home in Albuquerque, his first works were watercolors and acrylics.  Early in 2006 he met noted painter Holly Roberts who taught him techniques in oil-painted collage, acrylic transfers.  She also fostered in him the importance of allowing the subconscious to create a work of art as well as having the confidence in one's ability to allow serendipity to work its way into individual pieces.
